Muddus Falls
This walk was originally going to just be Lena, Anita and me, but when word got out others wanted to go too. Still the three of us were so slow that we ended up just as we planned, doing what women do, walking and telling each other our stories.
This hike was about 13K or a bit over 8 miles - 4 miles up and 4 back... we took the hard climb going up and the easy one coming down. We were in a state park and the trails were marked and a bit easier that the previous hike to Skaite - but the uphill component gave it more difficulty. We caught glimpses of the lower falls and the river as we went...
Eventually we arrived at the scenic overlook where we made fika and took photos

We took some other little trips after Muddus, to Porjus and Gällivare, but my time in this magical land was drawing to a close. There would be a farewell dinner for Hilke (the German exchange student) and I and gifts would be given and promises to visit made all around and then a little run up to the highest point in Jokkmokk to see the Midnight sun

and then home for more fika and partying before the long rainy drive to Lulea where I caught my flight home...alas. Now home with my little yellow ukulele, I look for the sad gypsy chords HG played for me the night this photo was taken and think back on the warm and wonderful families I visited and the great times we had and the laughter and the warm hugs... and I hope they will all come to visit me soon.
